City academic addresses Greek parliament
City University London Professor of Software Engineering, Professor George Spanoudakis gave a presentation on Smart City technologies to the Research and Technology Committee of the Hellenic Parliament on 4th December.
The presentation covered technologies and key research with an emphasis on security, data analytics, and the economic and social prospects arising from the emergence and use of smart city technologies.
It also provided an overview of opportunities arising for R&D cooperation between the public, private, local government and academic/research sectors.
Professor Spanoudakis says:
"The invitation to present the current trends and opportunities arising in the area of smart cities and related technologies at the Research and Technology Committee of the Hellenic Parliament was an honour for me and reflects the recognition that the work of City's Research Centre on Adaptive Computing Systems (CeNACS) on smart city technologies and related security issues and data analytics enjoys. My visit and presentation to the Research and Technology Committee of the Hellenic parliament provided an opportunity for additional meetings with local authorities and other public authorities in Greece, which revealed a promising spectrum of opportunities for immediate collaborations that can support the initiative of CeNACS to develop research and innovation EU projects in the area of Smart Cities and the Internet of Things."
In 2013, Professor Spanoudakis was elected as a member of the governing council of the University of Piraeus in Greece.
