F1 in Schools Regional Heat race to be held in City's Great Hall
City University London will be once again the venue of this year's F1 in Schools Regional Heat (London and South East) for the 2012/13 Championship Season.
Racing action takes place from 10:30 am on Tuesday 5 February, in the Great Hall.
Teams of students ranging from 9 to 19 years of age will race a model car along a 20m track at speeds of more than 60km an hour. They will also present their branding, sponsorship and marketing ideas before a panel of judges. Winning teams will proceed to the UK National Final at the Big Bang Fair in March. There, they will compete for a place to represent the UK at the F1 in Schools World Championship competition. F1 in Schools is aimed at helping to change perceptions about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in engineering, Formula One, science, marketing and technology.
City has been a key partner to the F1 in Schools programme, offering scholarships to winners of the F1 in Schools World Championship competition to study for a BEng in Automotive and Motorsport Engineering in the School of Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering.
