nullGeorge W. Bush famously once said "It's clearly a budget. It's got a lot of numbers in it." Yesterday, students from City's Financial Journalism MA were on hand to provide an altogether more sophisticated level of analysis of the Chancellor's Autumn Statement.

The students drew on the expertise of City academics and a wide range of other sources to update live blogs, create infographics and provide regular updates on twitter which gave followers detailed scrutiny of the Chancellor's economic plans.

Professor Steve Schifferes, Director of the Financial Journalism MA, said: "Each year we set our students the challenge of covering the Budget and the Autumn Statement to give them an idea of the pressures of working in a live production situation.

"The coverage of the Autumn Statement was produced solely by our students and was of a highly professional standard, an extremely impressive achievement especially given they are only in their first term."

A tweet from @CityNewsBudget was named in the Financial Times' round-up of the best tweets on the Autumn Statement 2013.
