City University London launches Masters to hothouse IT consultants
City University London is offering a new postgraduate course from September 2011 to accelerate the mid-career development of IT professionals in business analysis and consultancy roles.
The MSc in IT Consultancy will be an intensive, demanding course for those who want to excel in senior positions. It will cover both the risks and opportunities that are present in any organisation's IT strategy - from identifying, managing and controlling the threats that can result in the late or partial delivery of large-scale projects to spotting new approaches that can create fundamental operational advantages for businesses.
The course's director, City's Dr George Buchanan, says: "IT consultancy attracts professionals from a wide range of backgrounds - many have a technical grounding, while others come from accountancy, business and management disciplines.
"Our aim with this course is to enable professionals with around five years' experience to formalise their current expertise, while gaining new professional and technical skills to step up to leading consultancy or change or project management positions."
With the course intended for practising professionals, it will only be available in part-time mode initially, with teaching delivered in short, concentrated blocks of two or three days over a 28 month period and led by world class academics with extensive industry experience. A maximum of 10 students will be accepted on to the course in the 2011/12 academic year, ensuring high-quality tuition, teaching and student interaction.
The MSc in IT Consultancy is the latest addition to City's suite of postgraduate courses aimed at experienced IT professionals. This includes the recently launched MSc in Information Security and Risk, which will help those working in the field progress to managerial and consultancy positions.
