Academics from our School of Science & Technology share who inspired them to push on, and pursue their stellar careers in the field of engineering.

Today is National Engineering Day, 2024. Led by the Royal Academy of Engineering, the annual, national awareness day aims to make the UK's engineers and engineering more visible and celebrate how they improve everyday lives and shape the world around us for the better.
The theme for National Engineering Day this year is "engineering role models".
According to the academy, of today’s engineering workforce, only 15.7% are women and 11.4% are from minority ethnic backgrounds. Statistics that must change if we are to create a better and more equitable future for all, with the engineering profession needing to recruit and support engineers from all sections of society.
To support the day at City St George’s, University of London, we asked academics from our School of Science & Technology to reflect on who has inspired them to push through, pursue and thrive in their careers in engineering.
Watch their short videos below, where they share their engineering role models and stories.

You will be able to find a report on that lecture shortly in the pages of City St George’s news on the www.city.ac.uk website.
The School uses the Athena Swan charter as framework to progress gender equality for all. You can find out more on its dedicated webpage.
