Sir William Russell, Vincent Keaveny and Sir Nicholas Lyons have been recognised for their exemplary service to City St George’s, University of London.

City St George’s, University of London has appointed three former Lord Mayors as Honorary Visiting Professors of the President’s Office.
The previous Lord Mayors of the City of London, Sir William Russell, Vincent Keaveny and Sir Nicholas Lyons, have been recognised for their exemplary service as Rectors of the University during their terms as Lord Mayor.
The University has appointed the past Lord Mayors as Honorary Visiting Professors of the President’s Office for three years. They will attend guest lectures and academic events and act as a bridge between the University, the professions, and the networks of the City of London, among other responsibilities.
While in office each Lord Mayor initiates work to advance the prosperity of the City of London, be it as a Global Centre, enabling diversity and access to talent, or financing the future. Such areas of activity align closely with the university’s strategic goals as the university of business, practice and the professions.
Sir William Russell
Alderman William Russell took office as the 692nd Lord Mayor of the City of London on 8 November 2019. Due to the extraordinary circumstances arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, he served two consecutive years in office and became the first Lord Mayor to do so since 1861. Sir William chairs the Board of the Barbican Centre.
Vincent Keaveny CBE
Alderman Vincent Keaveny served as the 693rd Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2021/22. Vincent is a Senior Adviser at the international business law firm, DLA Piper, where he was previously a Partner advising on finance and capital markets transactions. Vincent’s Mayoral theme – People and Purpose – championed a purpose-led and people-focused UK financial and professional services sector. He continues to chair Progress Together, the financial services membership body promoting greater socio-economic diversity in the financial services industry. Among other roles, he is Senior Independent Trustee of the Sir John Soane's Museum and Chair-elect of the Governors of almshouse and housing charity The Charterhouse in Farringdon.
Sir Nicholas Lyons
Alderman Lyons has worked in the City of London for over 42 years. He has extensive experience in commercial, investment and international banking, as well as the insurance and reinsurance industry. He served as the 694th Lord Mayor, promoting the theme Financing our Future which focused on showcasing a resilient, resourceful, and responsible City of London. He was knighted for his services to the financial sector, the growth economy and financial literacy.
Dr Sionade Robinson, Vice President (Enterprise, Engagement and Employability), said the appointments reflect the University’s commitment to deepening its relationships with the City.
