The Crabb Lab aims are to understand, diagnose and monitor eye disease in order to improve patient services and outcomes, with a focus on the measurement of vision to achieve its goals.

Professor Crabb’s team at the Lab is a mixture of researchers from the fields of optometry, psychology, mathematics, health economics and computer science with a shared vision of reducing the burden of eye disease on society through their combined endeavours.

Professor Crabb and the team have a world-renowned reputation for ground-breaking research at the interface of academia, industry and health and care, and strong collaboration with researchers and clinicians from other eye care institutions of excellence.

This includes the nearby Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, the oldest and largest centre for specialist ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in Europe.

Reflecting upon joining the Power List this year, Professor Crabb said:

I am both pleased and surprised to be named on this list. I think I am the only non-clinical person on what truly is a roster of elite international individuals that have been shaping the direction of ophthalmology in recent years. The nomination is for ten years of excellence and impact in ophthalmology and I think this reflects the innovative research and international standing of the Crabb Lab.

I believe I am also the only nominated person from a department of optometry. I think this represents the unique history of optometry at City where we have been delivering excellent teaching for decades along with pockets of researchers that punch well above their weight on international metrics of esteem.
