Alex Chalk KC MP has been appointed following the resignation of his predecessor and former Deputy Prime Minister, Dominic Raab MP.

Alex Chalk KC MP, an alumnus of The City Law School, has been appointed Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice on 21st April 2023, following the resignation of his predecessor and former Deputy Prime Minister, Dominic Raab MP.

659570He was Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence from October 2022 to April 2023 and formerly HM Solicitor General for England and Wales and the Prisons and Probation Minister.

Alex Chalk KC MP has been the Member of Parliament for Cheltenham since 2015. Prior to being elected in 2015, he was a barrister and prosecuted and defended in cases concerning terrorism, international fraud, and homicide.

He received his Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) with a Distinction in 2000 from the Centre for Legal Studies at City, University of London, and completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law (ICSL) in 2001.

In 2001, the Centre for Legal Studies and the ICSL became The City Law School.
