By Mr Shamim Quadir (Senior Communications Officer), Published

Dr Abi Roper is Speech and Language Technologist at City working across our Centre for Language and Communication Science Research and Centre for HCI Design.  She works on projects which use technology to help people with atypical language problems with their difficulties, such as INCA.

Dr Roper recently received a Giving Voice Award from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), for her efforts in raising awareness of the importance of what speech and language therapists do and the challenges people with language problems face.

This included a range of work across social and wider media to help people during the pandemic, such as communicating effectively through face masks and how to look after one’s voice during conference calling.
