Professor Juliet John has been appointed as new Dean for the School of Arts & Social Sciences.

Professor John moves to City from Royal Holloway University of London where she was the Head of the School of Humanities. She was previously Head of English and Associate Dean Education for the Arts Faculty, following her move from Liverpool in 2012.
Professor John received her BA in English at Selwyn College, Cambridge and her PhD at UCL. She moved between the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool, Edge Hill and Salford before re-joining the University of Liverpool as a Professor of English in 2002.

Professor John is a leading Dickensian and Victorian scholar and author of several influential books on the relationship between Dickens and popular culture, both Victorian and contemporary.
She works closely with the Charles Dickens Museum, where she is an academic advisor and has working connections with the Museum of London.
Prior to her move to London, Juliet was Faculty Director of Student Experience for the Faculty Humanities & Social Sciences and founder and Director of the inter-institutional Gladstone Centre for Victorian Studies at Liverpool.
