On 13th November 2019, a comfortable meeting room at Cass Business School was transformed into a stage for the power of laughter, play, and mindfulness.

"Creativity is intelligence having fun" said Albert Einstein.

City, University of London's Centre for Excellence in Mindfulness Research (CEMR) organised another partnership event with the Mindfulness Society at Cass Business School, and the organisers and participants of this event were not disappointed.

“We arrived slightly apprehensive, and left feeling invigorated, light-hearted, and inspired”, said Dr Jutta Tobias Mortlock, CEMR co-founder.

Dr Theresa Dzendrowskyj, applied neuroscientist, mindfulness meditation teacher and director of Sunflower Innovations, and Sarah Davies, innovation consultant and improvisation director at creative play facilitation company Grin and Tonic, introduced the participants to fresh and mindful ways of thinking in a fun, reflective and safe environment.

The two facilitators demonstrated a profound – and literally embodied – understanding of the neuroscience of laughter and breath work, before inviting workshop participants to dance, learn and play, building trust and connection, using improv techniques to develop courage and capacity to deal with difficulty.

In addition to learning a wide range of tools for aligning mind and body in the here and now, the group practised and subsequently discussed what it looks and feels like to “have your own party in your feet”: kick-starting the release of vital neurotransmitters in the body to help the mind de-stress naturally, safely, and compassionately.

Dr Trudi Edginton, CEMR co-founder reflected after the event.

"This workshop showed us in fabulous new ways how we can learn how to calm the central nervous system and improve our sense of wellbeing. It was practical, enjoyable, and profound. Thank you Theresa and Sarah"
