Dr Rakhee Shah, wins prestigious national optics award at the Association of Optometrists (AOP) Awards 2020. The second win by a City Optometry lecturer in as many years.

Dr Rakhee Shah has been announced winner in the category, Lecturer of the Year, at the AOP Awards 2020, which is organised by the Association of Optometrists (AOP).
Dr Shah is a lecturer and researcher at the Division of Optometry and Visual Sciences at City, University of London, and also works in a community independent practice.
Reflecting on her achievement, and the lead up to it, Dr Shah said:
I am eternally grateful to everyone who has voted for me. Thank you to all the students past and present who I have taught and learnt from and to my family, friends and colleagues for their ongoing support and encouragement. The journey from the nomination to being shortlisted has allowed me to reflect on my purpose for taking on this career path. Winning this award is a great accolade highlighting my commitment to serve and give something back to the profession that got me here.

The AOP Awards, now in its ninth year, recognises the highest levels of achievement in UK optics. The Lecturer of the Year accolade recognises a commitment to teaching that inspires clinical excellence among students. The award goes to those who demonstrate dynamic and informative teaching methods. Showing great pastoral care, in addition to academic inspiration, winners will have a lasting positive impact on students.
This is also the second year a lecturer from City’s Division of Optometry and Visual Sciences has won the AOP Lecturer of the Year Award, with Dr Peter Campbell winning the award at the AOP Awards 2019.

The winners of the AOP Awards 2020 were announced on 26 January at a national awards ceremony in London.
