On 18th December 2019, the Government announced new financial support arrangements for a number of undergraduate and pre-registration postgraduate healthcare students, including student nurses, midwives and many allied health professionals.
This announcement means that those applying to study nursing and midwifery courses at City from September 2020, will receive a non-means tested grant of at least £5,000 a year.
The funding will also be given to all continuing degree-level nursing and midwifery students from September 2020. The grant will not have to be repaid and students will also be able to continue to access funding for tuition and maintenance loans from the Student Loans Company.
There may also be additional funding of up to £3,000 for specific courses or to help with childcare costs. This means that some students could be eligible for up to £8,000 per year.
Further information is expected from the Government early in the new year on who can access the support and which allied health professional disciplines will also benefit. We will provide further information once these details have been announced.
