They attended the British Council’s annual conference for leaders in international higher education.

A delegation from City, University of London led by its President, Professor Sir Paul Curran, travelled to South East Asia to enhance City’s relationships with key stakeholders, increase City’s global profile and identify opportunities for international collaboration.
The focus of the visit was Going Global, the British Council’s annual conference for leaders in international higher education, held in Kuala Lumpur. Members of the delegation attended various sessions, with Professor Sir Paul Curran chairing a session on university funding. Going Global provided delegates with an opportunity to discuss trends and emerging approaches within International Higher Education.
While in Kuala Lumpur the President of City hosted a reception attended by over 120 alumni, senior staff at partner universities and stakeholders.
The delegation, which included Vice-President (International), Professor Stanton Newman and senior representatives from four of City’s Schools, also visited the University of Malaya, which was ranked 46th in Asia in 2018, to explore opportunities for further collaboration.
School representatives took advantage of being in the region to host their own events and meet with partner institutions.
The City Law School and Sir Paul co-hosted a dinner with the Inns of Court Malaysia attended by senior legal figures in Malaysia, including the Chief Justice and Attorney General.
Dr Dirk Nitzsche from Cass Business School delivered a masterclass at an alumni reception in Singapore and visited Singapore Management University (SMU) together with Professor Newman.
Professor Vicky Joffe and Dr Lia Litosseliti from the School of Health Sciences travelled to Hong Kong to hold discussions with long term partner and WC2 member, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Professor Sir Paul Curran commented:
"The delegate visit provided an excellent opportunity to raise City’s profile in Malaysia and the wider region. I was delighted to host the Alumni Reception and the Law Partners Dinner and to meet our existing and prospective friends and partners. As a result of our meetings, Schools are exploring several opportunities for collaboration in both research and education."
The trip was organised collaboratively by City’s International Partnerships and Development team and Alumni Relations. Plans for similar visits in the next academic year are now underway.
