Session details:
Parametric Insurance: a coverage wanted and needed
Parametric insurance indemnifies losses suffered by the insured with a predefined amount when a loss-causing event parameter exceeds or falls short of a pre-established threshold. I will focus on the fundamentals of natural catastrophe (CAT) parametric insurance, including a brief introduction to CAT models and the importance of transparent data and analytics in building reliable parametric risk-transfer solutions. The discussion will be supported with real-market examples.
Speaker:
Dr Alin Radu is the Head of Parametric Insurance for the Europe Region at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance’s (BHSI) and AVP of Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics. Alin has more than 10 years of experience in CAT modelling and parametric insurance.
He has a PhD in Applied Probability and Statistics from Cornell University, and MSc and BSc degrees in Structural Engineering from City St George's University of London and Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest. He was also awarded the European Commission’s Marie Curie Individual Fellowship, to continue his research into uncertainty quantification and extremes in risk models at the University of Bristol.
