What is Festival of the Professions?
Previously started by the School of Policy & Global Affairs, across February 2025, City St George's has organised our inaugural 'Festival of the Professions' across the University.
Throughout February there will be a collection of employer events collaborated on by Schools and Professional Services highlighting our alignment to Business, Practice and the Professions.
Alongside planned activities by Schools, students can explore a variety of events below. Whilst some may be for particular cohorts, we encourage students to participate and make the most of the Festival.

Tuesday 4 February
Careers in Mental Health for Psychology
- 2.30pm-4pm

For students who are interested in a career in mental health but may be confused by what to start and how to get into them. Find out the difference between a psychological wellbeing practitioner and a mental health and wellbeing practitioner.
Wednesday 5 February
Global Careers Series: International Students working in the UK

Intended for international students and recent graduates who wish to pursue a career in the United Kingdom (UK), the event hopes to provide globally-minded students with a chance to:
- Network and connect with like-minded individuals and industry professionals
- Appreciate why experience in India is such an incredible advantage for graduates in today's job market
- Understand the challenges to working successfully in India, and how these can be overcome.
During the event, you will have a chance to hear from our distinguished speakers and you will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage with our panellists.

Trading Series (Session 1): Understanding trading methods and strategies

Delivered by Chris Brocklehurst, our Trading Series Sessions feature real-life examples and interactive trading games.
These sessions provide an engaging, hands-on experience that combines learning with excitement, making it both impactful and enjoyable.
In the first session, we talk about the trading decision: reward, risk and capital.
Tuesday 11 February
School of Health & Psychology Sciences Annual Volunteering Fair

Join City St George's Volunteering team as they welcome 10 charities as part of the annual fair. This is your opportunity to meet charities across a range of causes, including education, children and young people, women's support, health and social care, and mental health.
Placement Buddy Scheme for School of Policy and Global Affairs (SPGA) students

Students from SPGA are invited to a mentoring event with other SPGA students who have previously completed placements. If you're interested in doing a placement, this event will help you research various opportunities.
Explore Commercial Awareness in Law

This event aims to help students start thinking about how to become a standout candidate and what steps you can take during your studies to help you succeed in applying for a training contract or pupillage.
You will be supported in developing your understanding of and ability to articulate key aspects of commercial awareness relevant to the legal sector, both to support your applications as well as your future practice.

Early in Career Panel event with Microsoft

Students from SST are invited to join this panel event with staff from Microsoft in a casual and engaging format. The session will provide students with an opportunity to ask questions about careers in technology, learn about different roles at Microsoft and gain insight into the pathways available to them.

The Future of Multilateralism - Building Coalitions of Solidarity in an Age of Transnational Repression

The School of Policy and Global Affairs, and The Finsbury Institute are delighted to host Dr Azza Karam to give this year's Rosemary Hollis Memorial Lecture.
The title of the lecture is "The future of multilateralism: building coalitions of solidarity in an age of transnational repression".

Mock interviews for Sociology and Criminology 3rd years

As you enter the final term of your degree, the event will be a space to practice and build your interviewing skills, receive feedback on the day about your interview technique from Careers and Sociology/Criminology experts.
You will discuss your career pathways, preparing for applications, interviews and career opportunities after you leave City.
The event will followed by a social, and we will provide information on the schedule and activities of the day to help you prepare and settle any nerves! Think of this as an excellent opportunity to practice the art of interviewing amongst peers and colleagues you know from your degree.
