An overview of the STARs and ACE projects
Centre for Language and Communication Science Research at the School of Health and Psychological Sciences, City, University of London welcomes Lydia Davis to present her overview of the STorytelling for older Adults in Residential settings (STARs) and the Advancing the Communication Environment in care homes (ACE) projects as part of the research seminar series.
Abstract
The communication skills of older adults living in residential care is an underexplored topic. Communication difficulties, as well as situational and environmental limitations experienced by many care home residents can lead to reduced communication opportunities and activity in these settings which in turn can negatively impact wellbeing.
This presentation will summarise the STARs (STorytelling for older Adults in Residential settings) and ACE (Advancing the Communication Environment in care homes) projects, focusing on research methodology and findings, collaboration with key stakeholders, and the broader theoretical frameworks which underpin this work.
