Centre for Language and Communication Science Research at the School of Health and Psychological Sciences, City, University of London welcomes Jesús Romero-Trillo to discuss a project that compiles the narratives of migrants and refugees who arrive in Spain fleeing from traumatic situations, as part of the research seminar series.
Abstract
The talk will present the ‘Life is a Journey’ Project which compiles the narratives of migrants and refugees who arrive in Spain fleeing from traumatic situations.
The corpus, currently under construction, started in early 2022 following the humanitarian crises in Afghanistan and Ukraine, although the testimonies of refugees from other countries, like Nigeria or Venezuela, will be also included.
The talk will describe the structure of the corpus and the theoretical tenets that support its collection and analysis, with specific reference to the psychological, pragmatic, and prosodic approaches that are used for the analysis of emotion and conflict in the narratives.
