City’s Data Science (DS) alumni have found themselves at the forefront of innovation, research and commerce in the world of FinTech, and the pathways students have taken to get there has been varied and invariably successful.
This talk describes my experiences with DS students on these pathways: researching with City’s top-end CS people; levering AI to drive top-performing investment strategies; hiring City DS students into senior positions; and launching a recent FinTech startup with City DS grads.
I will also describe my PhD journey at City, culminating in a NeurIPS workshop spotlight and numerous other publications, and discuss opportunities we have for DS students to take on fully funded PhDs in AI FinTech at the University of Warwick’s FinTech research Centre.
I will also discuss how AI drives the investment group I lead, and the technical and research challenges that we now have to address, some perhaps as DS dissertations next year. I will profile one of our investment professionals and his journey from City DS to taking a senior investment role.
Finally I will talk about the startup journey you can take from City, and map out the journey I took with two City DS students 2 years ago, from ideas and dissertations, through to a fully funded, resourced, and mentored AI-FinTech startup, now working with some of the largest investors globally.
The opportunities are fantastic, and if my talk strikes a chord with you, email me or see me right after to discuss.
