The City, University of London Experimental Ensemble (CUEE) and City Field Recording Ensemble return to South London's premier venue for experimental sound and music, IKLECTIK, for a performance including classics of the avant-garde, guided improvisation and new work.
The event is free to attend, but numbers are limited, so please do sign up to attend, via the 'register now' button above. For COVID safety measures at this event, please see the advice pages on IKLECTIK's website.
CUEE are a free-wheeling ensemble of young improvisers and experimental musicians, led by Moss Freed and formed in 2018 to explore some of the array of non-traditional approaches to composition and sound production.
We welcome members from all backgrounds and experience levels, from orchestral players to bedroom beat-makers, pop singers to body percussionists. We focus on the improvisational skills of interaction, listening and real-time decision making, interpreting a variety of notation types including text scores, graphic notation and verbal or physical instructions.
CUEE have previously collaborated with guest artists including Cath Roberts, Sam Andreae, Jamie Howell and Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir. In 2019 the group responded to improvised sound with visual artist Gina Southgate, co-producing a permanent installation on canvas for the Music Department at City.
They have also worked with composers Alwynne Pritchard, Michael Finnissy, Kunsu Shim and Drew Crawford.
This concert will also include a presentation of around 15 minutes by City’s Field Recording Ensemble.
Programme:
Doors open at 7:30pm; music begins at 8pm.
- Cath Roberts, March of the Egos
- Cornelius Cardew, Schooltime Special (1968)
- Conduction (based on the LIO/Butch Morris lexicon)
- Premiere of new work created by the City Field Recording Ensemble

Attendance at City events is subject to our terms and conditions.
