Due to the developing COVID situation, it was become necessary to postpone this event. We hope to be able to reschedule a concert with Civitas in 2022. Many apologies for any disappointment and inconvenience.
The members of Civitas, City’s early vocal music ensemble, will offer a short programme of seasonal a cappella music. Medieval works will include Old Roman and Gregorian chants, Byzantine chant by the nun Kassia (9th c.), early Latin and English polyphony. In addition, the ensemble will perform selected carols based on ancient hymns by Richard Toensing (1940–2014).
This event will take place in the church of St Clement's, a few minutes walk from the main university campus and is free to attend. Please do sign up, via the 'register now' button above.
Civitas is City's student vocal ensemble devoted to the performance of the Early Music of Eastern and Western Europe, including both plainchant (Latin, Byzantine, and Slavic) and polyphony.
The group is led by director Alexander Lingas, also known internationally as the founding director of the acclaimed vocal ensemble Cappella Romana.
