This is a recurring event: View all events in the series “Summer Sounds”
Our online 2021 festival City Summer Sounds continues with new work from the Vonnegut Collective. Their experience of preparing and performing Thomas Adès’s kaleidoscopic Piano Quintet is reflected in a new work by Tullis Rennie, built from rehearsal footage, interviews and insights into the musicians' process and experience.
This event will be broadcast live and available to view via the YouTube stream below, or by clicking here.
48 Hours is a Vonnegut Collective project based around Thomas Adès’s Piano Quintet: a notoriously demanding and complex work, considered to require at least forty-eight hours of rehearsal time to prepare for performance. The Collective commissioned Tullis Rennie to create a new work in response to this process. He used the long rehearsal period as a creative opportunity to research, develop and explore the workings of contemporary classical music and performers. Rennie’s new composition incorporates live performance, recorded sounds from rehearsals and conversation with ensemble members. Vonnegut Collective believe that presenting these two works side-by-side will provide a unique insight, connecting audiences to the music and the people who make it in new ways.
