Text in action’ is an audience research methodology pioneered by Helen Wood in her work on television reception to interrogate dynamic relationships between texts and social contexts.
In this workshop, Helen Wood will discuss text-in-action research: explain how it evolved, how it works, its problems and possibilities. The workshop will include time for questions and discussion.
About the speaker
Professor Helen Wood’s books include Talking with Television: Women, talk shows and modern self-reflexivity (2009); Reality Television and Class (2011); Reacting to Reality Television: Audience, Performance, Value (2012) and Television for Women: New Directions (2016).
She is an editor of European Journal of Cultural Studies and Professor of Media and Cultural Studies at Lancaster University in the Sociology Department.
