The year 2020 has seen major upheavals in the world of shipping. The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the acute limitations in the current shipping legal and regulatory framework.
Indeed, even as the IMO announced that the 2021 World Maritime theme should be "seafarers", there have emerged so many other concerns for those with a vested interest in maritime law and policy.
From a sustainable shipping strategy to technology and innovation in commercial practices, and, from a looking forward maritime policy agenda to a reflection of our maritime heritage, there has never been a more exciting time for maritime law researchers to come together and share the fruit of their findings.
The London Universities Maritime Law and Policy Research Group (LUMLP) Conference will take place on Friday, 28th May 2021 to serve this purpose. Now in its 11th iteration, the conference brings together academics, postgraduate researchers, practitioners and other industry professionals to present their research, areas of work, and opinions.
This is an opportunity to engage with an informed audience from various parts of the maritime sector.
Due to uncertainties over future travel restrictions, this year’s conference will take place online.
We invite all participants wishing to present their research to a friendly and supportive environment to join us at this conference. Submissions in all areas of Maritime Law and Policy, including relevant interdisciplinary work, are very welcome.
The call for papers is now available to view.
Intending speakers should prepare an abstract (250 words) in Word and send it to [email protected]. All submissions must include your institution, a contact address, an email address and a contact phone number. Each speaker will present their research ideas or papers for 10 minutes and a 5 minute discussion will follow. Abstracts are invited from postgraduate students, academics, and shipping professionals alike.
We invite speakers to submit their abstracts as soon as practicable.
