"Procurement Oriented Requirements Engineering"

Project description

PORE is a method for requirements engineering for COTS software products. Predictions are that over 60% of software systems will be COTS/component-based by 2003. However, requirements engineering methods are lagging far behind. The PORE method was the first to address requirements engineering for COTS software. It is based on case studies of COTS selection processes, and recognises that acquiring customer requirements and selecting COTS software are dependent, and exploits these dependencies to guide both acquisition and selection.

PORE integrates techniques from disciplines including requirements engineering, feature analysis and multi-criteria decision analysis. Features of PORE are:

- Iterative requirements acquisition and COTS software selection
- Easy-to-use templates which guide this acquisition and selection
- Process guidance for systems developers
- Techniques for modelling COTS software as well as customer requirements
- A software prototype which offers process advice.
