"Novel Approaches and Theories Underlying Requirements Engineering"

Project description

NATURE was a EU-funded ESPRIT III basic research action which investigated novel approaches and theories for requirements engineering. It had 5 academic partners (City University, Technical University of Aachen, Universite de la Sorbonne Paris, FORTH Crete, and the Swedish Institute for Software Development in Stockholm) and ran from 1992 to 1995. Its main achievement was to deliver new theories of domain knowledge, process guidance and knowledge representation in requirements engineering.

Research in the Centre for HCI Design led to development of novel theories of reusable domain knowledge in requirements engineering. The main product from this research was a set of generic domain models, called object system models, which model the essential characteristics of over 200 classes of problem domain. Detailed deliverables include:

- Computational libraries of the object system models.
- A set of models of generic tasks, linked to the object system models.
- Empirical validation of the object system models.
- Computational mechanisms for retrieving and reasoning with object system models.
- Software tools which exploit the object system models to guide requirements engineers.
