The primary goal of APOSDLE is to enhance knowledge worker productivity by supporting informal learning activities in the context of knowledge workers' everyday work processes and within their work environments.
The key distinction of the APOSDLE approach, as compared to more traditional (e)Learning approaches is that APOSDLE will provide integrated support for three roles a knowledge worker fulfils at the professional workplace: the roles of learner, expert, and worker. Learning support will be provided in the work environment by exploiting synergies between learning and knowledge management based on reuse of content not originally intended for learning. Outcomes will include in-depth understanding of workplace learning from which a method and reference architecture to support of workplace learning within computational environments will be created. Deliverables will include domain-specific APOSDLE environments embedded into application partner organizations that will be used to demonstrate and evaluate the benefits of seamless integration of learning and working in the professional workplace. City's research will lead and participate in research in 2 key areas:
- Establishing and specifying the requirements for complex work-based learning environments, treating them as socio-technical systems that are designed to enable workers to achieve selected learning goals;
- Modelling the requirements engineering domain as a work-based learning domain, to enable APOSDLE prototypes to deliver work-based learning to requirements engineers based on extensive knowledge and resources available from City's requirements research.
