Lahini Sivaganeshan

Lahini Sivaganeshan spent the third year of her degree with Oracle, a global cloud computing service, as a technology consultant, where she is responsible for identifying customer demands, and aligning them into Oracle’s developing technology.

“I am having an incredible time at Oracle, I have been involved in numerous projects and opportunities which are encouraging and challenging. A major project that I have been a part of, is Bloodhound SSC - a supersonic car that is designed not only to go faster than the speed of sound, but over 1,000mph, which is currently the land speed record. It will cover a mile in just 3.4 seconds.”

“I was able to visit the Bloodhound technical centre on numerous occasions, and learn the technical and engineering aspects of the car from the engineers and colleagues. I even had the chance to see the car in action on its first test run at Newquay airport!”

“Being a Bloodhound ambassador also means I visit pupils in schools and present the Bloodhound story, demonstrating the science behind the car and conducting engaging activities with pupils, such as building a Bloodhound car using K’nex.”

“Placements like these are a great way to develop skills and grow confidence. Students should definitely try to get a placement, as it gives a real insight to work-life and can help you decide what sort of environment you would like to work in following university.”

Caroline Apsey, Lahini’s manager:

“Lahini has hit the ground-running at Oracle. Her ability to understand the business needs of the customer as well as the functionality of the underlying technology is a rare gift and one that clearly comes naturally to Lahini.”

“Lahini is exemplar in her work ethic and always completes her projects at the highest spec and within good time. Lahini is a natural communicator and engages well with Oracle customers from the developer level to senior management. This has enabled Lahini to host hackathons on behalf of BT as well as being personally invited to be a guest judge at a Boots idea-athon.”

“Lahini is taking full advantage of her time at Oracle where she is gaining expertise from senior master consultants.”
