Media for learning
Increasingly, staff are looking for ways to incorporate video materials into their teaching. Video can be an engaging and effective medium for demonstrations and presentations.
We worked with Dr Sam Divall, who is a Research Fellow in Civil Engineering, to create a video demonstration of an experiment he conducts with students in the Engineering laboratories.
Sam needed the students to perform the experiment with confidence and accuracy. As part of a project to create video resources documenting a range of Engineering experiments, we worked with him to film the experiment. The students now have a permanent resource to help them in the laboratory.
Dr Steven Truxal launched City's first fully-online programme, the LLM International Business Law, in 2015. Educational Technologists from LEaD worked with Steven and his programme team to create the materials from scratch.
As part of this project we recorded a series of video-based messages and lectures to supplement the students' learning materials on Moodle. We also trained the staff in the use of software for webconferencing and podcasting. The students can connect with their lecturers remotely despite their geographically dispersed locations.
We have a range of equipment and facilities bookable by staff and students. After an induction, you can make a booking to loan our equipment and facilities, or work with us to develop your ideas and explore ways of enhancing your teaching practice using different media.
