Designing Active Learning Initiative (DALI)

The Designing Active Learning Initiative or DALI was coined in summer 2015 as a way of describing what the overall aim of this initiative is in pedagogic terms, helping to focus on our research, problem identification and requirements gathering on the creation of technology-enhanced learning spaces that enable higher level or active learning to take place.

Over the next 5 to 7 years, City will be undertaking a revamp of all audio visual equipment in all learning spaces as part of the DALI project. The project will look at all aspects of in-class technology and the interaction of staff with this technology.

The DALI project includes what we call the AV Podium or POD, but extends to the teaching zone that surrounds it and will consider City’s spaces by type (such as lecture theatres, seminar rooms, PC labs etc) and by capacity (is it 20 learners working together in small groups or 200 attending a lecture?). The project also considers how the technology included in a room matches the teaching methods likely to occur in that space.

More information about DALI can be found on the Learning at City blog.

If you are in one of our many flexible spaces and want help on activities you can do with your students, see our page on Active and Collaborative Learning.

More information is available on our internal guidance site for staff at the University.
