  • Planned and facilitated a 2 hour focus group with UX agency heads, focusing on aligning our curriculum to industry needs and ensuring we deliver an MSc in Human-Computer Interaction Design that delivers students who have the knowledge, skills and values that align strongly to industry needs;
  • Key aim was to maintain the course’s high employability rate;
  • Recorded, transcribed and analysed the focus group data;
  • Reported focus group findings to HCID academics, including the new MSc Course Director, in order to shape the future design of the course;
  • Focus group findings led to the addition of a new innovation-focused elective module ‘Technological Innovation and Practice,’ which commences in January 2018;
  • Employability advice from industry leaders (from the focus group) also delivered directly to students in our dedicated ‘HCID tutorials’(2016/17, also planned for 2017/18) and during our induction day in Sep. 2017;
  • Focus group findings also emphasise the potential for more integrative practical HCI design projects where students are given the opportunity to select and justify tools, techniques and approaches from across the MSc course to fill a particular design brief. We are currently exploring opportunities to do this, based on setting coursework based on an industry-set design brief and where work is presented back to the industry ‘client’, with multinational telecoms provider Orange.
