Law of Treaties
This module explores critically analyses the rules on the law of treaties under international law: customary international law, the 1969 Vienna Convention on the law of Treaties between States and the 1986 Vienna Convention on the law of treaties between states and international organisations.
The module aims to develop deep knowledge and critical understanding on the development and the content of rules governing the law of treaties, as well as the controversies surrounding existing rules and the future development of such rules. The course is put in the context of modern treaty-making and international case law. A visit to the FCO or a visit of a foreign affairs representative to present full powers and experiences from international negotiations will be arranged.
