How to apply

Applications for the Study Abroad Programme

Your application

It is possible to apply directly to City, via agreements with individual US and other overseas institutions or through a number of Study Abroad programme providers.

Your application will be considered on academic merit and we will advise you on individual course choices. You should ensure that you have fully discussed your study plans with your home school advisors. Throughout the application process we are happy to communicate with you and your home school

Entry requirements

  • General recommendation
    We welcome applications from students at institutions in any country and are happy to advise on particular entry requirements for students from all systems. As a general guide we expect applicants to have at least a B average or equivalent.
  • USA
    Students applying to City from the American system should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Applying in your third or fourth year
    It is usual for students joining City to be in the third year of a four-year degree scheme. In assessing your application we will look for evidence of a strong academic background. A full transcript and academic reference should be sent in with your application form. We do not charge an application fee.

English requirements

If your first language is not English we require evidence of your English proficiency.

  • We accept IELTS at 6.5 or an equivalent test.
  • If you do not currently meet this English language requirement you should consider the INTO City, University of London pre-sessional English courses.

The application form

Students applying directly to City or through an individual home school agreement should email for an application form.

Applying via a programme provider

If you are applying through a programme provider you should use their application form and procedures.

  • Arcadia University, The College of Global Studies
    Arcadia will guide you through applying to City through the Arcadia programme.
  • IES
    IES will guide you through applying to study at City through the IES programme.
  • Institute for Study Abroad - Butler University
    IFSA will guide you through applying to City through the IFSA-Butler programme.

Applications, whatever their source, are considered on individual merit and in accordance with equal opportunities policy.

Application Deadlines

Applications for year long or fall/autumn semester study at City should be submitted by 15 May each year. Spring applications should be submitted by 31 October each year.

Autumn Semester/Full Year 15 May
Spring Semester 31 October 

Late applications will be considered however late applicants may find accommodation and some courses are no longer available.
