International Women's Day

International Women's Day on 8th March celebrates the achievements of women past, present and future. 2018 is the centenary of the Representation of the People Act of 1918 which gave some women the right to vote. It also marks 150 years since women were admitted to the University of London for a ‘special examination’ course – the first time in Britain that women had access to a university education.

City is marking the occasion with a range of events for staff and students.

Catherine Pine was a nurse who cared for suffragette hunger strikers after their release from Holloway prison.
