This fortnight aims to raise awareness about different family dynamics/ networks, centring experiences of those who are estranged, those with caring responsibilities and care-experienced individuals. City Cares wants to help normalise discussions around this topic to break the idea that there is a ‘traditional family’ and empower those who identify as estranged, a carer, or care experienced.
This campaign is aimed at staff and students and will highlight the ways that individuals can support their peers/ friends to navigate these experiences and directly encourage students themselves to self-disclose to be supported by City Cares.
How to get involved?
- Come and visit our stall on the main walkway and read first-hand how you can be more supportive as an ally to students and staff who are estranged, have caring responsibilities for an ill or disabled relative or are care-leavers.
- Read our blogs that have been submitted by students and staff about their experiences.
- Come to our drop-in lunch and chat on Tuesday 19th November at 12-2pm in the Courtyard Café.
- Read the posters around campus and engage with us online via Twitter @City_Cares using the hashtag #breakthestigma!
Visit our stall on the main walkway and commit to #breakthestigma by reading messages from our students about how you can be support and understanding of those who are estranged, have caring responsibilities for an ill or disabled relative or are care leavers.
