Speaker: Tarek Al Baghal, Institute for Social and Economic Research, University of Essex

Series: City-ESS HQ-NatCen methodology seminar series

Linking survey and Twitter has the potential to address shortcomings in both data sources. This talk will focus on the reasons for such a linkage, as well as practical issues in designing research linking the two data sources. This includes ethical issues and how these inform how to ask for consent to linkage in a survey; consent rates and potential biases; how to collect and analyse the data; and potential issues in archiving the data.

Dr. Tarek Al Baghal is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Social and Economic Research, University of Essex. He is the lead questionnaire designer for the Understanding Society Innovation Panel, involved in designing and implementing this longitudinal study, now on its eleventh wave.
