International City Week: February 2019

Come and join us to celebrate and learn more about City’s global community and its contribution to life at City and around the world.

The varied programme includes cultural awareness sessions, global careers workshops, sporting activities, language tasters, a chance to try food from around the world and much more.

With more than 20 events taking place over the week, there will be something for everyone.

Workshop: Getting ready for China

Are you a student who is going to China for study or work, or thinking to travel in China this summer? Perhaps you are a staff member who works with Chinese universities and is interested in business protocols and etiquette? This 2 hour workshop delivered by Lingoinn will prepare you with cultural awareness and understanding about living and working in China. Practical advice on job opportunities and required skills will also be provided. There will be a prize draw for 1 week free homestay in China at the end of the presentation.

School of Health Sciences Film Club presents: Untouchable

As part of international week, SHS film club invites you to a free screening of the French film Untouchable (2011). Based on the true story of an aristocrat who becomes a quadriplegic from a paragliding accident, who hires a young man from the projects to be his caregiver.  

The screening will finish by 8pm, and will be followed by a discussion on the ideas raised by the film about health care in a multicultural context.  

SHS film club is an educational venture covered by the 1988 copyright act.  The screenings are open to students and staff who are interested in the health themes in the film.

For the closing event of the week, the Student Union hosts a celebration of diversity, featuring an international fashion show, food, music and culture.
