Robotics and AI in Extreme Environments

Staff, Students, Academics

Research Centre: Research Centre for Machine Learning

Speaker: Ahmed Hadid (Hybird)

Founders Ahmed Hadid and Mohamed Hafez will be sharing their experiences in developing autonomous robotic systems for industrial applications in extreme environments. HyBird is a university spin-out which focuses on design and manufacturing of unmanned vehicles (aerial and ground), as well as the embedded software and firmware development, control algorithm design, and data visualisation and analysis for clients to securely access online. The company is looking to recruit top engineering and developer talent with experience in computer vision, machine learning, data science and full-stack development.

Ahmed Hadid is an experienced engineering, finance and startup professional, with many years building ventures across a variety of sectors and territories. HyBird was born during a Masters in Mechanical Engineering project at UCL, where founders Mohamed Hafez and Ahmed Hadid proposed building a hybrid-powered (petrol-electric) drone. After the project, Mohamed went on to set up internal drone teams at some of Europe’s largest engineering companies. During his career, Mohamed recognised inaccessibility, safety and accountability as the major issues in the infrastructure domain, which HyBird now solves.
