We compute the correlation functions in two classes of integer and half-integer spin chains whose ground states can be expressed in terms of uniform superpositions of Motzkin and Dyck paths. We find that when long-distance correlations occur, there is a square root deviation from the area law for the entanglement entropy and a light-cone profile for the propagation of excitations after a quantum quench is absent.
