Abstract:

Product innovation is a multi-billion dollar industry and spotting the right trend at the right time has historically been something of a dark art for many businesses.  With a world of social data now at our fingertips, Black Swan helps brands to de-risk innovation programmes and define their future focus by scientifically surfacing, prioritising and predicting consumer trends within social media.  Working with leading global consumer brands to turn the art of innovation into science.

In this talk, we will look at Black Swan’s approach to spotting and prioritising consumer trends and introduce Trendscope, Black Swan’s ‘Social Prediction’ platform.

Bio:

Markus is Executive Data Science Director at Black Swan.  He studied Chemistry and Quantum Mechanics at Oxford before working in the supply chain transformation team at Tesco, working on demand forecasting and data analysis. Since joining Black Swan as Head of Data Science, Markus has been leading a multi-disciplinary team using the latest developments in Machine Learning to help their clients – global retailers and consumer goods brands - make the right decisions.  Markus will be joined by Richard Mann who is both Corporate Development Office at Black Swan and a current Data Science Masters student at City.
