Scordatura Women's Music Collective is a group of musicians extending the established repertoire by performing and championing music written by women. With interests ranging from the baroque to contemporary to world music, the collective explores a wide range of music which deserves greater recognition.
In this concert, Ellie Edmonds (mezzo soprano), Rachel Watson (cello) and Cecily Lock (piano) will present music by three pioneering women from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Rebecca Clarke was a virtuoso violist and one of the earliest professional female orchestral musicians. Nadia Boulanger was one of the most influential figures in twentieth century music through her composition, teaching and conducting. Amy Beach, whose 150th anniversary falls this year, was recently described in the New York Times as 'a national symbol of women’s creative power'.
