The Department of Sociology welcomes UCLA's Douglas Kellner to City, University of London for a lecture and reception.
About the speaker
Douglas Kellner is the George Kneller Chair in the Philosophy of Education at UCLA. He is the author of many books and articles on social theory, politics, history and culture. Some of his books include 'Camera Politics: The Politics and Ideology of Contemporary Hollywood Film' (co-authored with Michael Ryan), 'Critical Theory'. 'Marxism and Modernity', 'Jean Baudrillard', 'Guys and Guns Amok: Domestic Terrorism and School Shootings from the Oklahoma City Bombings to the Virginia Tech Massacre' (which won the 2008 AESA award for the best book on education). Kellner is committed to making social theory illuminate everyday life experience, especially in relation to politics. His talk promises to shed light on policing, civil unrest and the appeal of Donald Trump in America today.
The talk will be followed by a wine reception.
