It can seem as though there is a new language for terms of funding opportunities. This session is aimed at educating you on the wide variety of investment options and what they mean while hitting home the importance of treading the fine line of profit and loss. You will learn more about what opportunities are available to you at different stages of your business growth and what you should be willing to offer or give up in return for investments.
A little about the speaker:
With 21 years’ experience within the Tech, Media & Telecoms market, exited entrepreneur Ian Merricks is now Managing Partner of White Horse Capital (VC investment, M&A) and sits on the investment committees of the Startup Funding Club, the Cabinet Office’s £10m Social Incubator Fund and the UKTI £6m Sirius Fund. He is a co-founder of the Communication Partners media agency, and an active angel investor - sitting on the member council of the UK Business Angel Association.
Ian chairs The Accelerator Network, encompassing the Accelerator Academy, which has supported 100+ high growth tech start ups, helping to prepare the companies to raise c£35m+ from private investors, seed funds, syndicates and corporates, creating over £350m of value in 4 years, and the EU-backed Fast Forward Pre-Accelerator Programme, uniting accelerators, incubators, seed funders (equity, loans & grants) and chartered institutes to support hundreds of UK startups plus a series of bootcamps, hackathons and investor readiness programmes.
These entrepreneurial education support programmes have been licensed to academia, UK Government (BIS, DCMS, Arst Council, Nesta), the UKTI and various corporates (Virgin, Dell, Visa) and now internationally, including Lebanon, Taiwan, Slovakia, Saudi and Iceland.
Ian is a Fellow of both the British Computer Society and the Royal Society of Arts, and a member of the Specialist Advisory Group for BCS Entrepreneurs, the 75,000 strong membership organisation (the Chartered Institute for IT Professionals).
He is a board advisor to Dell for Entrepreneurs, and also an Ambassador for The Entrepreneurs’ Network; Westminster’s think tank devoted to promoting entrepreneurship. He has recently joined the board and finance committee of Capital Enterprise, the not-for-profit membership body for providers of enterprise support services in London.
Ian was named in the 100 most influential Global tech accelerator leaders, 2015 and is the current winner of the “Entrepreneurs Champion” award, in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
