ABSTRACT

The seminar will introduce the typical tooth profiles of several different kinds of screw machines. The method and constraints of designing a tooth profile will be clarified. Based on a single-domain structured moving mesh, a full CFD modelling of an A-type profile (involute-cycloid profile) twin-screw pump have been carried out and validated by experiment, in which the geometry, clearance size and bearing friction losses will be taken into consideration. A comparison between D-type (cycloid profile) and A-type pumps will be presented which shows the differences in performance, this can provide reference for the choosing and optimization of twin-screw pumps.

SPEAKER’S BIO

Di Yan, PhD student at Chongqing University (China), is currently visiting at City University. He received his Master’s Degree and majored in mechanical theory and design in 2012 with a thesis on tooth profile design and process technology research of a two-stage oil-injected screw compressor. His main research areas are screw machine design and analysis, CFD modelling and precision processing technology.
