Dan Meridor, formerly Israeli Deputy Prime Minister
in conversation with Jonathan Freedland, The Guardian
Dan Meridor was born in Jerusalem in 1947. He holds a law degree from the Hebrew University. Having served as Secretary of the Cabinet for Prime Ministers Begin and Shamir, Dan Meridor was elected in 1984 to the Knesset. He served as a Member of the Knesset 1984-2003 and between 2009-2013. He has fulfilled several roles, including Chair of Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, Member of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee and the Ethics Committee. Dan Meridor has held ministerial positions such as Minister of Justice, Finance and Intelligence, and Deputy Prime Minister in the Israeli Government.
Jonathan Freedland is a weekly columnist and writer for the Guardian. He is also a regular contributor to the New York Review of Books and presents BBC Radio 4's contemporary history series, The Long View. In 2014 he was awarded the Orwell special prize for journalism. He has also published eight books including six bestselling thrillers, the latest being The 3rd Woman. @freedland
