UPDATE: The Government bowed to public pressure on Monday and announced that it will not be changing the Freedom of Information Act.

The emphasis of thijs event will now be on discussing the implications of that announcement, how journalists can make the best use of the Act and how it can be strengthened.

Ten years on, the UK Freedom of Information Act is threatened by a government review which could lead to it being dramatically weakened as a tool for journalists and others.

Panel

Press Gazette editor Dominic Ponsford with:

Heather Brooke – the journalist whose campaigning investigation and use of FoI helped break the MPs’ Expenses Scandal

Rob Evans – The Guardian journalist whose ten-year battle to force publication of Prince Charles’ letters to ministers helped prompt the current review of the act

Jonathan Isaby – Chief executive of the Taxpayers' Alliance, former editor of Conservative Home.
