Social media without tears: A safety net for the internet

Speaker: Prof David Stupples

We are all aware of social media and networking, but are we fully aware of the scams? You are warmly invited to attend our event looking at this topic, 'Social media without tears: A safety net for the internet' chaired by Professor David Stupples.

Have you ever thought on why these social scams are so successful? It’s not just we who love social platforms, cyber criminals are fond of them too, and this is no more an assumption, but a reality. Cyber criminals use social media not only to commit crime online, but also for carrying out real world crime, owing to “over-sharing” across these social platforms. Availability of such authentic information helps the criminals achieve their motives easily.

This panel discussion, chaired by Professor David Stupples, will explain the nature of the social media cyber crime, and examine the reasons why social networking sites are a favourite with cyber criminals. The event will attempt to find an answer to 'Why cyber criminals love social media?'
