School of Health Science’s Dean’s Lecture Series with Sir Iain Chalmers

The School of Health Sciences warmly invites you to register for the next Dean's Lecture given by Sir Iain iain chalmers profile 1Chalmers taking place at City University London on Monday, 25th July 2016

Sir Iain Chalmers was founding director of the National Perinatal  Epidemiology Unit between 1978 and 1992, and founding director of the UK Cochrane Centre between 1991 and 2002. Since 2003, he has coordinated the James Lind Initiative. He edits The James Lind Library and Testing Treatments Interactive, and contributed to the 2014 Lancet series on reducing waste and adding value in biomedical research.

It has been estimated that over 85% of the investment in health research is being avoidably wasted. The main sources of this waste are failure to assess what is already known before embarking on additional primary research, and biased under-reporting of completed research.

Sir Iain Chalmers’ talk invites staff at City to present and discuss the measures being taken by the University to reduce these and other sources of waste.
