Celebrating sustainability at City

Join us as we celebrate City’s seventh annual green week. A variety of events and activities will be held, all aimed at encouraging students and staff to get involved and learn more about the environmental and other sustainability initiatives happening here at City and beyond.

Activities during the week will include:

Informational stalls daily from 11:00-15:00 along Level 1 main walkway in University Building, will include visits from Traidcraft (selling Fairtrade crafts), TapWater.org (promoting free chilled drinking water on campus) and Thames Water (sharing water-saving tips and providing free shower timers).

Free bike doctor: bring your bike along for a free maintenance service.  Free bike lights are available to anyone visiting bike doctor (as long as supplies last).

Meat Free Monday

Curious to learn how a meat-free diet will benefit your health and the environment? The Campaign Manager from Paul McCartney’s Meat Free Monday campaign will also be on hand to offer advice and recipes. A meat-free menu will also be available at the EATC1TY cafeteria.

City Cycle Cinema

Join us for a cinema powered entirely by pedal bikes. Members of the audience will take it in turns to ride the bikes powering the cinema’s screen and sound. This year we’ll be showing the 2004 cult classic, Shaun of the Dead. Entry is free and a variety of refreshments will be available for attendees. Fancy dress encouraged. Register now.

A panel event organised by CityCareers in collaboration with recruiters and professionals. You will have an opportunity to hear from a range of panellists and participate in a Q&A forum, followed by a networking reception.

The aim of the event is to help you understand the number of career options available to you and help you make more informed career choices. Students from all year groups who would like to find out more about the breadth of roles available in the Energy and Sustainability sectors are invited to attend. This session is perfect for those who are looking to secure internships or graduate roles.

This panel event is aimed at giving our students an insight into the different opportunities available to them post graduation or when looking for internships – to help broaden their scope when applying for jobs.

Great City Bake Off

If you love baking, then take part in the Great City Bake Off. You need to include at least one sustainable ingredient in your bake. This could be something free-range, organic, fair trade or locally sourced. There will be a sweet and savoury category, so whether it’s cakes or bread, tortes or pretzels, there will be a category for your bake. Please bring your cakes into CityBar between 12:00 and 13:30 on Friday 23rd October. Judging will start at 14:00. Overall winner will win an Afternoon Tea River Thames Cruise for 2 people, worth £65.00!
