Ian Pace (Piano)
Series: City University London Concert Series
Ian Pace, Head of Performance at City University and internationally-renowned pianist, brings a characteristically adventurous programme featuring a rare opportunity to hear Paul Dukas’s epic Piano Sonata in E-flat minor (1899-1900). Debussy wrote in La Revue blanche ‘the piece evokes a beauty comparable to the most perfect lines found in architecture – lines based on natural forms that blend so well with the open spaces of the air and of the sky that all is a perfect and total harmony’.
The second half of the programme consists of the UK premiere of French composer Brice Pauset’s brilliant Étude (2011) for piano, and the London premiere of Spanish composer Hèctor Parra’s labyrinthine Piano Sonata (2010).
This concert is part of the Inside Out Festival
